Almond Chocolate Slice

Pastry

90g Butter

2 Tablespoons Sugar

1 Teaspoon Vanilla

¾ cup Plain Flour

Topping

30g Butter

½ cup Sugar

½ cup silvered Almonds

2 Tablespoons Cream

2 Tablespoons Plain Flour

125g Dark Chocolate

30gm Vegetable Shortening

 

Line a 28cm x 18cm tin with aluminum foil.

For pastry beat butter, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy about 5 mins. Add sifted flour and mix to a firm dough. Press dough into base of prepared tin. Bake in oven , about 180C, for about 10 minutes

For topping put butter, sugar, almonds, cream and flour into saucepan. Stir over low heat until butter has melted and sugar dissolved. Spread mixture over base. Return to oven and cook for another 30 minutes.

Slice into squares with sharp knife and leave to cool in tin. When cool remove squares and dip into chocolate mixture.

Put chocolate and shortening in top of double saucepan, stand over simmering water until melted.
